You can add a splash of color to your character sketch to help visualise them even better.Add-ons can be combined depending on your vision for the piece.If what you have in mind is tricky to communicate through the add-ons, no worries! Every commission from Maraden Art includes a Personal License by default. If you need to use the artwork commercially, you can add one of the licenses below.If you're not sure which one fits your situation, just ask, I'm happy to help you figure it out before you buy.

✦ How commercial licensing works

- Tell me upfront how you plan to use the artwork. The commercial license only covers the use(s) we agree on. If you later need to use the artwork in a new way (a different platform, a new product, etc.), you'll need my written permission first, and this may require an additional fee.
- If you upgrade your license later (for example, going from Content to Merchandising after the piece is finished), you pay the difference at current rates, even if the fees were lower at the time of your original commission.
- A commercial license does not include free promotion of your product. I'm happy to post the finished piece with credit to you, but unless we've agreed on an NDA or you've separately purchased my endorsement, I post on my own accounts, on my own terms, with my own captions and descriptions.
- All commercial licensing and posting delay/NDA fees are calculated off the total quoted commission cost, not the base price.
- Orders above 500 EUR require a signed contract between both parties before work begins.

For individual, non-commercial, non-monetized use only.Think: personal social media avatars, character reference for your own D&D table, printing one copy for yourself.

✦ Commercial: Content License (+50%)

For content creators and businesses who want to use the commissioned artwork as part of commercial or monetized digital content.Licensee: Individual or Legal Entity (Company)You can:
- Create and distribute digital end products (videos, streams, posts, graphics, marketing material) to your own commercial or monetized accountsYou cannot:
- Create or resell value-add or derivative digital/physical products made with the artwork
- Distribute the deliverable file(s) "as-is" (i.e. sharing or handing over the raw art file itself), unless otherwise agreed.This tier covers: book and TTRPG illustration work used for marketing and promotion (promotional posts, ads), using art as part of Twitch overlay, Patreon reward art, and other content where the artwork supports your brand or project rather than becoming a sold product itself.Credit: Required for all public uses, unless otherwise agreed.This license does not transfer ownership or copyright.

✦ Commercial: Merchandising License (+100%)

For businesses who want to create, promote, and resell their own digital or physical end products made using the commissioned artwork.Licensee: Individual or Legal Entity (Company)You can:
- Create, resell, and distribute value-add or derivative digital/physical products made with the artwork (prints, merch, packaged digital products, in-game assets).
- Create and distribute promotional content to advertise those products.You cannot:
- Resell the artwork itself "as-is," with no value added.This tier covers: the artwork being sold or incorporated into a product itself, an illustrated book you're publishing and selling, a game asset used inside a game you're releasing, printed merch, and similar.Rule of thumb: if the artwork is promoting something you're selling, that's Content. If the artwork is part of the thing you're selling (in the book, in the game, on the product), that's Merchandising.Credit: Required for all public uses, unless otherwise agreed.This license does not transfer ownership or copyright.

✦ Posting delays and NDAs

If you need me to hold off posting the finished artwork publicly, or need a formal NDA, the fee is based on how long the restriction lasts, whether or not there's a signed NDA involved. A longer wait costs more either way, since it delays my ability to use the piece in my own portfolio and promotion for that much longer.

If a formal NDA or signed confidentiality contract is required (regardless of duration), add a flat +50% on top of the duration fee above, to cover the extra time and liability of reviewing and signing legal paperwork.Example: a 6 month delay with no NDA is +25%. A 6 month delay with a signed NDA is +25% + 50% = +75%.

✦ What you can do with the art (all tiers)

- Post the artwork to your own social media or forums, with credit.
- Print a physical copy for personal use (I'll help prep print files at no extra cost).
- Purchase an additional or upgraded commercial license after the piece is done, if your needs change.

✦ What's not allowed, regardless of tier

- Using the final artwork in genAI edits, animations, or similar.
- Overpainting or severely altering the piece without my permission (small color, contrast, and framing adjustments are fine; when in doubt, ask).
- Selling merch, prints, or products made from the artwork without a Merchandising license.
- Reselling the raw deliverable file itself.
